AN INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER!

Named a Most Anticipated book of 2024 by TIME ∙ The New York Times ∙ Goodreads Entertainment Weekly ∙ Today.com ∙ Paste ∙ SheReads ∙ BookPage Woman's World ∙ The Nerd Daily and more!

A shimmering, joyful new novel about a pair of opposites with the wrong thing in common, from #1 New York Times bestselling author Emily Henry.

Daphne always loved the way her fiancé Peter told their story. How they met (on a blustery day), fell in love (over an errant hat), and moved back to his lakeside hometown to begin their life together. He really was good at telling it…right up until the moment he realized he was actually in love with his childhood best friend Petra.

Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children’s librarian (that barely pays the bills), and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra’s ex, Miles Nowak.

Scruffy and chaotic—with a penchant for taking solace in the sounds of heart break love ballads—Miles is exactly the opposite of practical, buttoned up Daphne, whose coworkers know so little about her they have a running bet that she’s either FBI or in witness protection. The roommates mainly avoid one another, until one day, while drowning their sorrows, they form a tenuous friendship and a plan. If said plan also involves posting deliberately misleading photos of their summer adventures together, well, who could blame them?

But it’s all just for show, of course, because there’s no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiancé’s new fiancée’s ex…right?

I loved it. It is definitely an easy read. I have a one complaint which is why it is 99.9% to me and that is I just wish I got more of miles and Daphne too! Little good scenes that could have been great! But like I said I loved it. Heart warming and deserving are the best two words for this one!

Emily Henry never disappoints! Funny Story is another amazing cast of characters and her writing never fails to make you feel like you are right there with them in the story. This needs to be a movie!

I cried, I laughed, I gasped, I blushed, I rolled my eyes and more. This was my first read from Emily Henry and I now wanna read more. The way I could hear all these characters in my head and feel all this feelings. This book felt so real and I encourage anyone who needs an escape and reflection session to read it

It started off really good. I was totally invested in the story, but then it started to feel very predictable and a little juvenile if I’m being honest. The overuse of italics was a HUGE distraction. At some point I found myself focused more on that than the story. Literally italics on every other page. At some point I started rolling my eyes at the amount of times they were used for emphasis. Just too much. I can see why most readers love this book, but it’s too over done for me.

This is probably because you read a free preview of the book and didn’t purchase it for $13. Once you purchase it, either on Apple Books or at a physical bookstore, you will be able to read the rest of the book.
