If you’re planning on falling in love…

When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s yoga pants, he’s a suit. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.

you’d better be sure…

Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.

… someone is there to catch you.

Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

Every time I read a Jill Shalvis book, it’s like coming home. Her writing is fantastic, and you can’t help but fall in love with her character, and Playing For Keeps is no different. I love Sadie’s character. She’s sassy, kick butt, and a bit guarded. Which makes her the perfect hero for Caleb. They both have demons from their past that still haunt them a bit today, but are growing from it. Most of the family members I could do without, and there were a few that really irked me, but I guess their hearts were in the right place. A fantastic read that I would definitely recommend!!

A touching, emotionally charged story, with a high level of lust as well. I love the ups and downs along with the push and pull this relationship takes. Reading about Sadie’s life and her choice to be a starving tattoo artist and Caleb’s background leading up to becoming a billionaire genius had me alternating between tears, anger, and wonder. After knowing each other for a year and only trading sarcastic barbs, they are suddenly rescuing a dog that they both fall in love with. Becoming co-pet parents means they will be forced to communicate in a different way. Their shared interest in doing what’s right for their fur baby helps them learn more about each other. Another fantastic story by Jill Shalvis! The Heartbreaker Bay series is a must read and is always a possibility for a reread.

I read this enigmatic book straight through. I loved revisiting the friends of Heartbreaker Bay and especially enjoyed the main characters of Sadie and Caleb. The writing of Jill Shalvis made me feel like a character in the story. I felt the pain and stress of Sadie but also the love emanating from Caleb. This story also made me laugh with the antics of sweet dog and matchmaker Lollipop. Kudos to Jill Shalvis on this romantic 5 star novel.

What can I say about Caleb and Sadie? I LOVED them! The snark, the chemistry, the banter, the animal, the crew... These are just a few of the wonderful things about this book. Mentions of future/past characters make me giddy. I’m excited to see what Jill Shalvis comes up with next. She never disappoints.
  • Unwanted relationships

I don’t think that Jill Shalvis can write a bad book. All of her characters have their own special quirks, some loveable, some not. Sadie and Caleb were no different. Their love for Lollipop (or as some call her “Poops A Lot”) is just the beginning for two people who don’t want to get involved in a relationship. It’s always good to catch up with a few others from the Heartbreaker Bay series. The good thing is that you don’t have to read the previous books to read this one. But I would highly recommend reading all of Jill Shalvis’s books. You won’t be sorry.
  • Amazingly sweet!

Another amazing and sweet story from Heartbreaker Bay where ironically hearts tend to be mended and pointed towards their mates rather than broken. Caleb and Sadie are two such hearts who on the surface seem like an unlikely couple until you see how much they have in common when they rescue a three legged dog and decide to co-adopt her. As with most people, they are by no means perfect but they really are perfect for each other and have an over abundance of chemistry, heart and soul. As always the flow of this story is wonderful and easy to submerge yourself into and feel like you are a part of it. The humor infused into it is on point as it always is from Jill Shalvis. I love, love, love this couple, their story and of course their matchmaker Lollipop too! I hope this series never ends.
  • Move over Willa & Keane!

This might be my most favorite Heartbreaker Bay novel yet! Sorry, Willa and Keane, #2 is still good. Caleb is everything! He's cocky but sweet, kind but demanding. I think with 4 sisters, he has to have strength to deal with that every day. And how he falls for Lollipop is just so much! There's something about a man rescuing an animal that just does things - fans self. Sadie is another character you want to leap into the book and hug her - and smack her. Sadie is "broken" although I don't think I would call her that; she's a work in progress. She's had some rough times in her life, from her family to the guy she was dating. I think their commonalities are what drove Caleb, Sadie and Lollipop together. They all needed each other, even if they didn't plan for it or expect it. Definitely a re-read!!

Caleb Parker is all work and no play until he meets Mercedes Lane. Sadie has her own demons but these two put all the pieces together. So fun reading more in this series!
