Penn Cage a former prosecuting attorney in Houston Texas is now the mayor of his hometown Natchez Mississippi. An area of major concern called The Devils Punchbowl, a hollow off the Mississippi River where large riverboat showcasing gambling but also depravity, sex and violence. A fast paced novella which I enjoyed reading!!

A real page turner. I didn’t want to put it down.

Another hit for Isles. His descriptive words and suspenseful plots bring his world of Natches to life in a way as breathtaking real as Pat Conroy. The secrets, racism, corruption and intertwined relationships are as real as the same things are today and imbues an authenticity not often found in the pages of a novel.

I loved it. Can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

Penn Cage is a very well developed character. I loved this plot.

Written with a mastery that IS Greg Iles. You'll feel the energy from the first words to the final twist. His talent for entwining your very soul with those of his characters will teach you more about yourself than you ever dreamed possible.

I love Iles' book because you always learn something knew. Like the coffin with the stairway and glass window in this book. Fascinating and true. Iles' books always make you feel like you are part of the action. One of my favorite authors. I've read all his books except Spandau Phoenix - which I bought but could not get into. The others I could bit out down.

Just when I thought things just might get calmed down another crisis would appear. A new type of evil in the south is rising and Greg is there to make sure we get it.
