What began as a very interesting, compelling story turned into mush with too many obscure characters, too many innuendos, and too many departures from the plot. I usually look forward to Connolly’s books. This one wasn’t worth waiting for.

I read over 70 books a year— cover to cover. It is rare if I do not completely read a book. I tried again and agin but could not get past a third of the book. The minutiae was unnecessary and detracted from whatever direction the author wanted us to go. I have nothing positive to say.

What a pretentious waste of time and money. I slogged through this, but wish I had my money back. Never again will I buy something by this writer.

Too long and too much history. Disappointing.

I wait impatiently for every new book from John Connolly. This latest installment in the Charlie Parker series was astonishingly good. I did not want to finish reading it, but it was so good I could not put it down. Connolly’s books cannot be read without a dictionary and an encyclopedia. I learn so much from every book. I love the Charlie Parker character. I will just have to wait for the next book.

Entirely too long & drawn out. Too much detail kills any suspense.
