If you are looking for a quick fix to change your habits or some easy mental trick to improve your self esteem / life... you won’t find it here. This is basically a wake up call to get you out of the idea that you will always be a victim of circumstances and to realize you are responsible for creating your own reality. It’s about doing the hard work of acknowledging and owning your past and the responsibility you have to yourself to do better. It’s definitely inspirational but not in a corny, preachy way, but down to earth and blunt. That being said, I would have liked a few of his more important suggestions for action called out in the layout (similar to the many great quotes highlighted throughout) to give more weigh their importance. I felt sometimes really powerful suggestions for actionable ideas got lost in the middle of a paragraph. Regardless, I suspect I will return to this book and my own many highlighted passages for a long time.

The book had no direction and I felt lost 98% of the time. Couldn’t really grasp where the message was going. At times I felt as if I was reading one of my old composition course papers where I was given the direction to elaborate on every sentence, and meet a certain word limit by trying to add odd comparisons or analogy just to make the required limit. Was really looking forward to this especially since it was one of Apple’s email suggestions. Last time I listen to one of those. To the author take my $11, and buy yourself a latte my friend because you seem very upset.
