  • Great Book

Very good book from one of the strangest figures in rock... totally normal Brit, a rather ordinary life outside of stardom. He was loathed and loved (but mostly loved) by fans, had huge crossover appeal with black audiences, but seemed criticized by rock music critics. For no reason other than his success and venturing into pop and soul music, which he was great at. His turn to alcoholism in late-middle age shows the perils of addiction. The book seemed sincere and very much like what you’d hear when Phil gives an interview: many times, memoirs don’t seem authentic. That is not the case here... I don’t think Phil embellishes or holds back details. A great read if you are a fan of his work and career.

What an amazing career. An endless stream of amazing songs that definitely were the soundtrack to so many lives. And in the midst of all that, Mr. Collins dealt with so many personal frailties and imperfections. He reveals all of this and makes the reader realize that unparalleled success does not insulate us from underlying vulnerabilities. This takes a lot more work than making records.

This is his whole life, and he decided to treated everything the same. There’s not a real focus. I suppose I was mostly interested in the early Genesis years. But if you’re interested in the and-then-there were-three years you get the same amount of that. And the solo years. He ended up with so many kids and wives and girlfriends I couldn’t keep track of them all. Maybe keep a scorecard? The biggest disappointment was an almost total lack of insight toward himself and others. It’s mostly a series of events. But it clips along.

Great insight to the life of a legend. Unbelievable talent yet confidence and belief in ability at times.

He certainly is Not Dead Yet. A genius in the music industry, an enigma in the Hollywood scene, and a father/family man that is too harsh on himself for not being able to be present. Thank you Phil for showering us with your amazing talents while the Collins family had to take a back seat at times. Your incredible love for your children is blatantly obvious. How blessed you all are that you are now able to recognize your priorities. The music of Phil Collins will always stay IN THE AIR TONIGHT! 💙🎤💙🥁💙

The 1st Genesis concert I attended was the ‘Trick of The Tail’ concert at the old Sam Houston Auditorium in Houston. Peter Gabrial had already left the band, so Phil was the front man / singer. Great show; which made me a huge Genesis / Phil Collins fan ever since! He’s one of the great multitalented musicians of our time, although I have the feeling he’d be surprised by that assessment. Phil Collins has always impressed me with the fact that he’s always been a ‘down to earth’ individual, and this book really makes that point. Great read: an honest, sincere, memoir, by an honest, no BS, individual, who has given great music to us all.

This is a great behind the scenes of the life of phil’s heydays, along with the cost mentally, physcially and family time. You see that it isn’t all that easy, and you do have to work at it to be as stellar as Phil Collins was. HIs early music background and the network of musicians is just phenomenal! That and along with his great talent is why he had such a great career. As you think of where you were as he writes about a Genesis or solo Album, you see where he was. Great book with a lot of great stories, with an inside look into what he was going through apects of his career!
  • Awesome memoir from a great musician!

Excellent read on the life of Phil Collins. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and wished there was more. I am suspicious there was more that could have been included, but those parts are none of our business. Thanks for sharing your trials and tribulations. Highly recommended read.

I couldn't put the book down. He brought me into his soul, his life. It was a fantastic journey learning about a man who is just a man with raw emotions. We are all human and are running towards something. Glad he found it in the end.
