Nothing new at all. Literally a rehash of every other Stones book written, quoted verbatim from them. Surprising from such an accomplished writer. He tends to lean towards every negative tone he can find towards the band. Again surprising given his work he did with Mick on the series 'Vinyl.'

I suggest reading more than just the sample as the previous poster did. That's like hearing one lackluster cut from an album and determining the whole album is bad. Sure he rehashes stuff, but gives you more about the Stones in the later part of the 20th century. More anecdotal than other Stones books in many ways I suppose. Like my title, it's not great, but not awful, and worth a read.

I just downloaded this book. Read the first 30 pages and deleted it. It is a waste of time. Labored writing, rehashed stories, nothing new in here at all. I stopped at the Dartford train story rehash for the thousandth time before I got sick. Apologies to the writer, but you were correct about one thing....you did get to the party too late to write a good book on this subject. If you've read any of the previous good books on The Stones don't waste your time on this one. If you haven't, read one of them, but not this one. I recommend "Old Gods Almost Dead". This book is dead on arrival.
