This is one of the best books, that I have read in a very long time. It transported me to a different era. The vivid imagery, the fashion, the different characters were all engaging, separately and as a collective. Kudos to you Shannon. I loved this book very much. I do feel the drawn out chemistry between Eira and Rai is taking a very long time, however a little mystery and cluelessness can’t hurt sometimes. Overall a very interesting book.

I really enjoyed the story and the book was well written. I am excited about starting the next book in the series, immediately. My one complaint is the writer spent far too many words in describing each character's look and outfit...in several different scenes.

This book kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! A little slow at first but once Eira gets you into the city all I want to do is to keep reading to see what happens next! The only con I have is the names are quite hard to pronounce.
  • A fun, well executed mix of urban fiction and fantasy.

I was first drawn to Experimental Heart by the cover. It is rather beautiful artwork. When I discovered it is urban fantasy fiction, I had mixed feelings. It is a genre I am not particularly fond of. However, I was intrigued and decided to give the book a shot. At first I was thrown off by the first person point of view, but I quickly adjusted to that perspective. What I found is a rich, character driven story with extremely well developed protagonists. Laz is very complex—it is immediately apparent that she does not understand herself. Raikidan is just perfect, exactly what I would expect from a non-human. His perspective and reactions are different to say the least. It is extremely interesting to see what motivates him as the story unfolds. The chemistry between the two main protagonists is exciting and intense. Ever flowing back and forth, these two ride a rollercoaster of emotions. While most of the plot revolves around the two, the supporting characters are also quite well defined, each with their own interesting backgrounds. Overall, this mix of urban fiction and fantasy works. It is a fun read.

Destiny is the first book by Shannon Pemrick that I have read, so I wasn't sure what to expect. What I found was a storyline that was a combination of fantasy and paranormal. filled with supernatural creatures. There is violence. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. If you like an Alpha kick butt female lead character who is a NuHuman (human with modified DNA), dragons, and elves then you will enjoy this book. The author did a good job of setting the stage for both the book as well as the series. The characters are multi-dimensional and well written with vivid imagery of both the character descriptions as well as the settings. There are a lot of clues in the storyline that keep you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed next. Enough to keep me riveted just to see how it ended. As usual not everything, or everyone, are as they appear. My rating would normally be higher considering how well written this book was. But the way the book ended lowered my rating. It just ended very abruptly, not even a cliffhanger, leaving me with a lot of questions. I will read the next book in this series and hopefully my unresolved questions from Destny will be answered. I received a copy of this book and chose to review it.

This book is very exciting. I thought each one of the characters was very interesting and interplay was excellent. I hate that I got all wound up in the story ends on a true cliffhanger. That's a close the book thrown at the wall kind of book.
